The Mini Cooper is one of the nation's favourite cars. And in 1961, racer John Cooper made a brilliant car even better. The likes of Paddy Hopkirk proved how good the tuned models were by winning the Monte Carlo Rally in '64.
Now available at Barkaways is this special 1965 MK1 Mini Cooper S. One of the rarest and most desirable models of the Mini family, this MK1 is in incredibly original condition. It has been owned by one family its entire life and having purchased it from his father in 1969, the current owner went on to use it as a competition car.
Present is a heritage certificate and confirmation of matching chassis, engine and body numbers. Presented in its original colour of Almond Green with a white roof and optional 4 1/2" wheels, the only main departure from originality is the conversion from hydrolastic to dry suspension which took place in the 70's to improve the handling.
The original porcelain green and dove grey interior is in remarkably good condition, whilst the 1275cc engine and gearbox have undergone rebuilds in the past.
Included is a fastidious folder of history recording everything done to the car down the years, along with the original handbook, log book and service book.
Although the car has had some documented restoration work in 2011, it has spent most of its time in storage since the 90's, before arriving to us. It is therefore due some recommissioning work.
