Ferrari 250 GT Lusso (1964)
This Ferrari 250 GT Lusso #5469 is one of only 22 RHD cars produced. The car was delivered in February 1964 to its first owner, Mr John Green in the UK, by Maranello Concessionaires Ltd. The original factory order form (number 95) from October 1963 and bill of sale are still present with the vehicle.
Unhappy with the car after only a couple of months ownership due to some problems with it, John Green part exchanged the car to order a brand new Bentley – receiving £5000 from the Lusso towards it. Mr John Dalton bought the car shortly after for £4900 and collected the car once the initial job list of problems was completed. These included a noisy axle, noisy transmission, trouble with the lights, steering wheel out of line, brakes pulling to one side and the bumper needing a rechrome, amongst other issues.
John Dalton considered selling or part exchanging the car himself a couple of years later due to being back and forth between Europe and The Bahamas. He was also considering buying a new Ferrari 330 GTC instead, as original letters in the car’s history show, but he ultimately made the decision to keep hold of the car for 20 years.
In 1989 the car took part in the Ferrari Owners Club Concours, comfortably winning its class and earning the 2nd highest mark of any car at the event.
It has been in a private collection and unseen for 21 years before the current owner purchased the car through Barkaways in 2017 and commissioned us to carry out a full restoration taking the car back to its original colour of Blu Medio metallic (Blu 19.391M) and black leather trim (VM 8500).
The car has a significant history file and documents from the UK Ferrari archive confirming its provenance and matching numbers – Engine 5469, Gearbox 207 and Axle 199.
