As the Dino project drew to a close (deadline for the FOC Concours lawn loomed ever closer on Sunday 8th July) the team started turning their attention to our next labour of love; a full restoration of a 1970 Daytona 365 GTB/4. The Daytona has always been regarded as one of the more desirable models with early Plexiglas examples becoming significantly collectable. We took delivery of the car back in March; in essence a complete car, well, the gearbox came in a separate box! Following our initial inspection back in April we found the car to be structurally solid and incredibly worthy of a restoration to bring it back to its true glory. As always, we are working closely with the owner to sympathetically restore the car and were fortunate to speak to Keith Bluemel who had already undertaken extensive research on the car and its provenance. With all the legal paperwork sorted and the car now UK registered (it had spent time over in the US) the first stage of the project has seen the removal of the engine from the body of the car. Rob has started removing cam covers, cylinder heads and has started stripping and cleaning down the engine to assess its condition. This will establish the level of rebuilding work needed to get the car back in working order. Our customer waits very tentatively for the outcome of this exercise.
