Daytona Restoration - Summer 2012
During the summer months we removed the engine from the car to start the removal of the cylinders heads. Part of this process saw us extracting various items from the engine bay including coolant radiator, oil tank, exhaust manifolds and exhaust system.
The removal of the cylinder heads however was more of a challenge. One head freed itself fairly easy, without too much of a struggle but the remaining head was a different story. After a number of testing weeks we finally managed to free the cylinder heads from the engine block. A challenge that took grit, determination, lots of elbow grease and plenty of penetrating fluid!
One by one the studs became loose and with repeated heating and cooling of the head assembly it started to reluctantly budge. After repeated movement the remaining corroded studs shifted and we were finally able to remove the head and investigate the condition of the block and cylinder surfaces.
