Daytona Restoration Continues
June/July
We stripped and repaired bonnet shut and scuttle panel as well as aligning with adjacent panels. We have started to dry fit the indicator and lamp units to ensure perfect alignment on completion. Corrosion repairs were carried out to the nearside door which resulted in additional levelling to both the door and frame. Work was also undertaken to fabricate a panel for the nearside wing and weld in place. The dash board is now back with us having been repaired and re-trimmed in its original mouse hair.
August.
Work started with flatting down the guide coat ensuring the vehicle was ready for primer to be applied. All panels refitted to vehicle and a coat of primer applied and flatted. With the body of the car now taking shape components such as the light units were again checked for fitment and adjustments. With the flatting and shaping of the primer on the vehicle complete the Daytona was masked and prepared for paintwork.
September
Sharon and Steve made the difficult decsion after much deliberation over the final body colour has been confirmed and agreed with the Sharon as Grigio Azzurro. Following final body preparation, degreasing and masking we have painted the body with 4 litres of solvent base coat followed by 4 coats of clear coat lacquer. We have very fine sanded between coats. Work then started on painting the under panels and inside of doors and bonnet in satin black and textured shuts as required. In preparation for the vehicle moving back into the workshop for its refit all engine and chassis parts have been moved to the rebuild bay and organised ready to be fitted back onto the car.
