Dino Restoration Final Stages
We are now entering the final leg of the Dino restoration project and we find ourselves putting oil and petrol into the engine in readiness for the magical moment of starting the engine for the first time. This is always a very special moment and is a culmination of the 1000's of man hours that are committed to get you to this crucial point. As we go through the pre starting checks on fuel systems and electrics there are a couple of small leaks from a coolant clip and a fuel banjo but nothing major.
We have never started a new engine in front of a customer so this time we filmed the event and will put in on the website to share with you all. Ben (Barkaway) was given the chance to start this one with Ian operating throttles and watching gauges. With a turn of the key the Dino burst back into life first time and sounds fantastic, it's always a relief when everything goes to plan.
Reaching this milestone still left us with a long list and late evenings for the team with Matt on suspension and electrics and Ian on door locks and mechanisms (because no-one else wants to do them). The original carpets arrived just in time from Italy and have been fitted which just left seats, sun visors and door cards all of which take miles longer than you could imagine.
It's now the final week before The Ferrari Owners Club National Concours and the 'very' proud owner has had his first run in the car as we keep putting the miles on the clock to settle it down. This just leaves the final cleaning and detailing to wipe away 10 months of us rebuilding this amazing piece of Ferrari history. The customer is due to whisk the car off to the Concours Lawns for the first time on Sunday 8th July.for all the Club Members to enjoy.
